How safe is your Smartphone - how secure is your data? See our articles section to secure your device.
Whether you keep it in your car, your pocket you think that your Smartfone is always safe - but is it? We heard recently of an incident where distraction was used for someone to gain access to an office and steal a mobile phone. However can you secure your phone without making it a nightmare to use? We suggest some useful tips to secure your data.
- Use a pin code on your Smartphone; set the timer at ten minutes before locking. Yes it is a pain to type in the code before you use it, but your data will be secure. Anyone wishing to gain access to the phone will require a pin code to access the data.
- Encrypt the data on your Smartfone and any memory cards. E.g. Most Blackberry devices this is available through the advance options.
- Don't store confidential information on memory cards - always store it in internal memory. This will make it harder to extract the information by simply inserting it into a computer.
- Synchronise your Smartphone using your desktop computer synchronisation software, and enable the backup facility. This will ensure that you can then get a replacement Smartphone up and running as quickly as possible.
- Don't store contacts on your SIM card unless you enable a PIN code . This can be easily removed and the contacts extracted.
